I stood for the Leominster North Ward of Herefordshire Council on May 5th on a platform asking for the pay of £226,700 a year Chief Executive Chris Bull to be cut along with the salaries of all Council Officers on more than 75k a year. Not being in a political party my campaign was overwhelmingly internet based, using a free Google Blog: http://anexpensesaccount.blogspot.com/
Last week Chay Sykes, a student at Hereford Sixth Form College, decided to see if he could access my website on his local library computer. The answer was “Blocked on all Herefordshire Library and Hospital computers”. I am actually a Leo Town Cllr so the Council are actively stopping my constituents from seeing what their elected representative is doing on their behalf!
But it gets worse: a Council insider tells me my website & all my manifesto and policies were blocked by Chris Bull’s staff during the Council election campaign. Mr Bull – who is also Returning Officer and has a legal duty to conduct elections impartially – is refusing to answer my questions about this urgent matter.
North Herefordshire Conservative Association and Herefordshire Green Party did not have their online election material censored in this way: so was there a fair election in Leo Nth on May 5th? I’ve contacted the Electoral Commission. But I wouldn’t have known this censorship had occurred without the detective work of Chay Sykes who is a credit to the teaching standards of Hereford Sixth Form College!
